Positive 'worth-of-mouth marketing' can be thousands of times more powerful than conventional marketing and can influence people to buy. BUT get it wrong, and it can be the equivalent of business suicide. Especially if there's an element of misleading your readers, as is often the case with those ebooks which are nothing more than self-advertising. So if you are going to give away content, make sure it is useful, relevant and lives up to its claims. Your readership – and ultimately your bank balance – will thank you for it.
